Saoirse here, having a really hard time loving democracy. I’m not going to touch the US election mess in this blog post, simply because I’ll get more depressed than I already am, and well… I’m feeling pretty low. The democracy that I’m hating on today is our internal one.
The T-E-C Elections for our ruling council recently wrapped up. And, as expected, I lost. As not expected, I not only lost, I only got one vote – my own. Ouch much? Way to soften the blow guys. 🙁
But, even better, the council decided we’re going back to work this week?! Do I feel anywhere NEAR ready for that? Hell no. Their solution is to bait me with the promise of a new Mac should I succeed in pulling a rabbit out of the magical work hat. Admittedly, as bribes and motivations go, um, that’s actually probably the only thing that would have gotten my attention at this point, so, kudos for crushing me and then baiting me with the big shiny.
I admit, I’m still one of the “stronger” alters in the system, and it has occurred to me to go against the council’s decisions and do my own thing, and buy a new Mac too, regardless. But, anarchy is one of those things like democracy – it only smells nice when its going your way…. and I hate to admit it, but anarchy is even worse when it goes bad. At least at a system level.
So, I’ll probably bitch and complain, but let the new council rule, and let whoever wants to do outside work “host” duties run with it.
Oh yeah, the new council is:
- Sharon (chairperson)
- Carol Ann
- Janet
😛
I apologize to everyone in the cafe community if I grump kind of extra hard for awhile.
