I’d like to say that after all this time, we had this one worked out, but we don’t. It’s something we still struggle with. Probably the best thing we ever did was to “come out” as having DID on Facebook, which took a ton of guts, as it basically meant coming out to all our friends. Some of them were genuinely interested and understanding. Some of them have never mentioned it to this day, even though we’ve remained fairly open about it. That said, we still mask in public almost all the time, even around people who know about the DID. Old habits are hard to break.
