Naltrexone
Hi everyone,
I’m wondering what your experiences with Naltrexone have been?
I’m currently taking Naltrexone as prescribed; it was suggested as a treatment option for me, based on the research/theories that dissociation is in part caused by the brain releasing small doses of opiates.
I recently went through a few triggering events that have sent me into a heavily dissociated state. I’m also experiencing symptoms similar to going through withdrawal. People coming off of opiates are told not to take Naltrexone within one week of taking opiates, as it can induce/aggravate withdrawal.
I’m wondering if Naltrexone is in part to blame for my symptoms. I will be following up with my doctor, but in the meantime, has anyone had a similar experience?

Good grief, the study is talked about in this paper – https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1586/14737175.8.1.19 but they want $95 for 48 hours of access. Do you have any other sources about the use of this drug for dissociation? (wikipedia just leads to the $95 paper) I’m interested, but $95 is a bit of a large pill to swallow. This is actually something we’ve never tried, though. I’d be very interested to learn of anyone else who has tried this drug!!

This is really interesting to me. I did try Naltrexone for binge-/over-eating. At the time, I was not struggling so much with dissociation, so I cannot say if I found it personally helpful to me. Overall, I had mild GI upset when I started the medication, and eventually came off of the medication because it was not helping as much as I’d hoped with weight and curbing my eating.
I’ve considered trying it again, but the connection between dissociation and the body’s natural opiate system wasn’t something I was aware of! Might you have any update on how you’re finding the medication in terms of how it is working for you??
