  • Is it possible to test someone's opinions of DID with something media related?

For example, we will be starting college in August.

Lots of introductions and stuff. And, chances are that we might get asked “What is your favorite television show?”

I might want to test this person by saying: “My favorite show is Moon Knight.”

(Being that Moon Knight is known for the better portrayals of DID out there, I think. And being owned by both Disney and Marvel, chances are that a lot of people may have at least heard of it before).

I want to know if it is safe to be open to select people about our plurality, and if we can test people by saying that Moon Knight is our favorite television show and see how that take from there, and what that means in terms of us feeling safe around them.

Also figuring that when people have strong opinions about things, they are generally not quiet about it. So, if people, for example, watched or know of Moon Knight do they believe that DID only exists in fiction, do they believe that DID is real and that systems are not something out of a horror film?

Thoughts or opinions, or some other suggestion will be nice.

Also say that I do this. Wonder what will be better: a small group setting or in-front of a class.

Because I could be getting a whole lot of hate or love or confusion in my way if I am not careful about things.

(And, I much rather know someone’s of DID rather to find out the hard way. Like if they have negative opinions about DID, will it even be worth it to continue a relationship with them?)

I wouldn’t do it in front of a class. I’d do it one-on-one with folks you feel comfortable around. Then yes, you can bring up the topic via Moon Knight or something. But for the most part, people don’t need to know.

      Good to know.

Don’t know what college will look like, but we are excited and nervous about it. Safer than home, probably. 🤞

In order to “test” my mom and stepdad about what they thought of it, I watched the movie “What If It Works?” with them and gaged their reactions while watching it. It’s a really good romantic comedy that accurately depicts a main character with DID (In my opinion, at least). The only downside about the movie I feel is that they refer to DID as multiple personality disorder, which of course is an outdated term.
